Moringa supplements and effects of hypertension drugs

Diuretics are the commonly prescribed drugs for hypertension. One disadvantage of diuretics is that they reduce potassium; in case you take these drugs you may need potassium supplements. In these conditions doctors prescribe another type of diuretic drug, potassium-sparing, to counteract potassium depletion. But, these drugs can cause risky high levels of potassium in some patients.

Clogged arteries result due to plaque development on the inner walls of arteries. Arterial plaque will reduce blood flow or, in some circumstances, block it completely. While plaque buildup happens, cells in artery walls multiply. These cells will also secrete unique compounds that can affect the condition of clogged arteries. Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL), contribute to arterial plaque formation. High blood pressure conditions arise due to stiff arteries, which in turn make heart and kidneys to work very hard to maintain the balance. This is referred as atherosclerosis that occurs in the arteries of the heart, legs and the aorta.

The Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and magnesium in moringa oleifera leaf powder get involved in homocysteine metabolism. It also supplies essential amino acid (methionine) responsible for increasing immunity. When blood vessels work efficiently, the hypertension risk gets lowered. Calcium is necessary for smooth muscle relaxation and contraction; increased consumption can have a direct effect on blood vessels. It’s best to obtain your calcium from your diet. Studies have found that compared with supplements, dietary calcium has twice the benefits for blood pressure.

Hypertension

Practice of relaxation response and health education advices can help a sizeable percentage of people to reduce systolic pressure by 10 mm Hg. Those who followed this plan seemed to eliminate or reduce their antihypertensive medications. In this current scenario, people are switching over to herbal remedies that will be safe without any side effects.  Research carried out at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Cuilmun Cancer Chemo Protection Center, Maryland USA concluded that moringa powder contains hypertensive anticancer and antibacterial activities due to the  benzyl isothiocyanate, 4-isothiocyanate, niazimicin, benzyl isothiocyanate and benzyl glucosinolate constituents. They found that these compounds are relatively unique to the Moringacae family.

A person to remain healthy needs different B-vitamins to maintain homocysteine levels low. This combination will enable homocysteine to be properly transformed into helpful antioxidants such as glutathione. Without B6, B12, B2, folate and magnesium, alarming levels of homocysteine may build up in the body. This will lead to atherosclerosis and macular degeneration. Diet high in magnesium benefits persons with hypertension, as they work for relaxation of smooth muscles of arterial blood vessels.

Another research study has been done with rabbits as the models. Treatment with M. oleifera or Lovastatin in normal rabbits seemed to decrease their HDL levels. Lovastatin-or M. oleifera-treated hypercholesterolemia rabbits showed reduction in lipid profile of liver, heart and aorta. But similar treatment of normal animals did not produce considerable reduction in heart lipids. Moringa oleifera has been found to increase the excretion of faecal cholesterol. This has found to be beneficial for high blood pressure conditions. This study demonstrated that moringa oleifera possesses a hypolipidaemic effect. Moringa can induce the body to flush out calcium and phosphates from the kidney more efficiently. Moringa has been used widely as a food supplement for hypertension patients. The patients take these supplements after consulting with their physician.

A unique food supplement - Moringa

Today’s western diet has twice the caloric intake of a consumer in 1965. They are receiving 75% less nutrient value for current calories consumed. Instead of getting them from food they lookout for the nutrients. As there is availability of processed foods at affordable cost, supplement usage in the western world has become a necessity.

Numerous surveys indicate that around 49-54% American adults use dietary supplements. Majority of them are vitamins, minerals, Omega-3, fatty acids, lutein and fiber. The evidence from numerous surveys shows that nonusers never do exercises intake junk food and have low immunity. Dietary supplement users have sound health-related habits. These include good dietary practices; regular exercises, healthy body weight maintenance and keep away from tobacco and alcohol.

Dietary supplement users differ from nonusers in certain features. Supplement usage in adults has been found to increase with age, income, and education. Within each age group, women use supplements than men. Women used calcium products for bone health (36%), whereas men were using supplements for heart care or to lower their cholesterol levels (18%). Elderly people were taking supplements for heart, bone and joint, and eye health than young people.

Health conscious attitude is one vital reason for usage of food supplements. People who use less fruits or high processed food were unlikely to use food supplements. It is also strange that when these people suffer from different diseases they may be likely to take food supplements along with the drugs. Supplement use was related to more favorable concentrations of C-reactive protein, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, serum homocysteine and triglycerides. These supplements lower risk of common high blood pressure and diabetes.

Moringa - Food Supplement

Food Supplement

Researchers studied various micronutrient deficiencies and their relation to immunity. Typically deficiencies of zinc, selenium, iron, copper, folic acid, and vitamins A, B6, C and E were studied. They found that these deficiencies can alter immune responses in animals. Some research institutions have also tried to use these micronutrients in case of sick patients and found remarkable improvement in their health conditions. People can also get benefited by interacting in the society and sharing their distress. To reduce social stress, you can take a food supplement that keeps you calm among the tight work schedule.

Intake of selenium is recommended for people with in specific digestive conditions, such as Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis. Increased immune system function may reduce the risk of certain cancers. It helps rid the body of free radicals. It also functions as detoxifier. Calcium is needed for the maintenance of bones and teeth. These food supplements are not marked to cure or treat but they can provide the essential nutrient in recommended daily allowance dosages. In case you are taking any medications. You should consult your doctor before deciding about the amount of food supplement.

Similarly you should take the supplement in the proper way as given by the manufacturer if you want to avoid any further complications you can look for natural products or the way in which they are produced.

It is advisable to take a single food supplement that can fulfill the needs of macro and micro minerals well as vitamins. Moringa oleifera capsules are one such supplement from the miracle tree moringa oleifera. If they are manufactured under careful low drying they have many times the nutritional value of the fresh leaves. Role of moringa in liver care

The second largest organ in human body is the liver, involved in millions of physiological processes in the body and known to carry out more than 500 functions. People generally associate liver with detoxification but it has many other vital roles such as:

  •  production of bile juice
  •  regulation of chemicals in the blood
  •  production of proteins for blood plasma
  •  production of cholestrol and fat metabolism
  •  conversion of serum glucose into glycogen for storage
  •  regulation of blood levels of amino acids
  •  removing the drugs and other poisonous substance form the blood

Pathogens and environmental toxins build up in our tissues especially when the immune system is unable to handle the load and liver function becomes inefficient. It fails to carry out the needed physiological functions successfully. Due to a detox or weight loss programs, either liver function is affected or we may be allowing more toxins in our blood stream. In these conditions, we may face detoxification symptoms that include bloated feeling, constipation, headaches, fatigue, flatulence, skin rashes. It can also aggravate allergic reactions, hormonal dysfunction and weight gain.

Researchers evaluated the hepatoprotective effect of an ethanolic extract of moringa oleifera leaves in liver damaged conditions. This liver damage has been induced by usage of antitubercular drugs such as isoniazid (INH), rifampicin (RMP), and pyrazinamide (PZA) in rats. Oral administration of the leaf extract showed an important protective action. This is made clear by its effect on the levels of alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, glutamic pyruvic transaminase (alanine aminotransferase) and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (aspartate aminotransferase) in the serum; lipids, and lipid peroxidation levels in liver. This observation has been supported by histopathological examination of liver sections. Final results of this study showed that treatment with moringa oleifera extracts seemed to enhance the recovery from hepatic damage.

Moringa for liver care
A weight loss or detoxification program can be uncomfortable and symptoms. When toxins exit the body, they enter the bloodstream to initiate a range of symptoms such as headaches, nausea, fatigue, mental fogginess, or skin eruptions these symptoms may be similar to signs of liver dysfunction. These are all positive symptoms showing those entered toxins are being expelled from tissues and liver. You can also know that they are in the process of being eliminated from the body.

When vast numbers of toxins are circulating inside the body, it is advantageous to intake a food supplement rich in antioxidants. They can prevent free radical damage during the elimination process. Moringa oleifera leaf powder has 46 anti-oxidants including Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K, selenium, copper, iron, carotenoids and more than 100 phyto-nutrients.

Bone marrow is a sensitive tissue due to high rate of cell profuse. Bone marrow is the place where white blood corpuscles are generated. White blood cells, Red blood cells, platelets, blood vessels and capillaries arise in red and white marrows. Phagocytosis by macrophages crucial activity against microorganism and its effectiveness is improved by opsonization of parasite with antibody. Complement C3b receptor leads to quick elimination of parasite from blood.

Molecules that activate complement system are also termed as opsonins. Phagocytic cells exist without an Fc receptor for immunoglobulin M (IgM). Thus it becomes ineffective in supporting phagocytosis. IgM is highly effectively in activating complementary system and therefore listed as an opsonin. Opsonins include molecules that target a cell to be destroyed through action of natural killer T cells. Complementary system is part of innate immune system, which will not change over the course of an individual's lifetime.

Healthy Eating Habits

Free school midday meal plans in different countries with a goal to help the poor children. A pilot study has been conducted at the period when free school meals were provided. Results showed that at a global level, these children had good academic improvements than other students who took home meals. Lunch time is the ideal time when a child gets a chance to follow habits of other children. Under the monitoring of the teachers, the children deliberately increase vegetables and fruits intake.

Till 19th century in most of the Southeast Asian, African countries people cooked in specific ways to retain all vital nutrients of grains and vegetables. They consumed whole grains, vegetables and palm sugar etc from their own and neighboring farms. Farm animals took nutritious forage, and they avoided chemical injections to increase milk production. Hence dairy products and meat were also free from harmful chemicals. Processed foods were rare and their food was pure due to traditional farming practices.

After industrialization people moved to cities and urbanization affected children heavily.  When Green House Gas Emissions increased, protecting earth and humanity became an important issue. Harmful residues were found with increased usage of chemicals for pesticides and insecticides even in ground water that triggered various chronic and acute health conditions.

Health surveys were conducted in different countries to study the effect of diet on diseases. In Australia, poor diet choices are associated with many chronic diseases. Their onset is steadily increasing in other advanced countries such as USA and UK. Increase of diseases were found to be due to poor diet especially large quantity of energy-dense foods. These were with high saturated fat, sugar and salt content. In these conditions, there are low intakes of nutritious foods such as vegetables, fruit and wholegrain cereals.

Both adults and children seemed to follow the same wrong type of food habits. Irregular food timings and wrong combination, wrong choices of foods are responsible for obesity. Physical work is less and as a result you need to take only the calories needed for your healthy body. It becomes necessary to take food supplements if you suffer from vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Instead of taking multiple supplements, you can take vegan capsules to get all nutrients from a single natural produce. Moringa oleifera leaf powder can be used as a food supplement without any side effects. This can be added to your staple diet for effective weight loss properties.

Organic Farming and Environment

It may be amazing to know that Zero Budget Organic Farming (ZBNF) on just 50 percent of cropland and pasture would impound enough emissions to rally 41 gross tones of CO2 emission in a year. It has already been verified that organic farming can cut down Green House Gas (GHG) emissions to a significant extent and protect environment. In future, we can expect safeguarding ozone umbrella through taking up vigorous organic farming. Global level surveys found that organically grown crops gave higher yields during droughts than traditionally grown crops. Research projects have proved that organic corn yields have shown 31 % higher yield during drought than with non-organic corn under the same climatic conditions.

As the seeds are procured from organic plants through traditional breeding, there is no GMO and the produced plants yield healthy natural produce. Organic fertilizers such as cow dung  and neem oil are used and they can give good yields and as per the biodiversity manual tilling is used harmful insects are attracted by intercropping and the plants selected for intercropping also improve quality of the soil.

Many complex entities and relationships involving factors such as soil type, regional climate, cropping system, and timing of farming. Combinations of beneficial on-farm practices take part in prospective to reduce GHG emissions and alleviate climate change.

There are few ways in which organic farming can combat climate change,
  1. Decrease on-farm fossil fuel energy use
  2. Decrease the embodied energy of agriculture inputs
  3. Removal of carbon dioxide from atmosphere and sequester carbon in soils and woody biomass
Organic Farming
Organic farming employs manual tilling for weed control and it will include cover crops. Organic production appears to store greater net amounts of carbon compared to conventional systems. Research studies have found that with 40 to 50 years of synthetic nitrogen based fertilizer applications; the net soil carbon content has decreased even though incorporation of large amounts of carbon from crop residues resulted.

Organic farming is referred due to the following reasons,
  1. Increased soil fertility
  2. Reduced soil erosion
  3. Improved water infiltration to increase water observation and limit the effect of flooding
  4. Decreased dependence on fossil fuel based fuels and in outs such as synthetic fertilizers
  5. Increased habitat for beneficial insects

Carbon emissions are more in when the natural produces are kept as such and preservatives are added. But with shade drying, deep freeze drying gives leaf powder, root powder or seed powder without losing any nutrients. Herbal capsules may give excellent nutritional benefits. Color of the organic produces reflects the natural colors and various organizations such as USDA, European and Indian NPOP provide organic certifications.

Commercial grade personal care and health care products have low price. Petroleum derivative additives used such as paraben are used to increase the shelf life of personal care products such as shampoos soaps hair conditioners etc,. Synthetic coloring agents are also used in these low priced personal care products. Carbon emission in distribution networks can be controlled, when we start to use fresh fruits vegetables.

Use of nitrogen fertilizers causes increased nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions, a greenhouse gas nearly 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. A research survey showed that nitrous dioxide emissions contribute over 50% of GHG emissions from UK agriculture. Evidences show that lower nitrogen inputs in organic farming systems can lead to lower N2O emissions compared to non-organic farms on an area basis. High water-holding capacity of soils under organic management can give higher yields compared to non-organic systems.

Food Banks and Food Redistribution

Malnutrition and undernutrition in developing countries result in poverty due to increase in food cost and low income. Mostly, these low income groups of people spend more for their shelter than food. In developed countries, considerable quantity of food is wasted due to unavoidable circumstances during parties or events.  A lot of local charitable institutions take up gleaning helps at these situations by forming food banks. In these food banks, perishable food items are collected, stored and they are redistributed to the poor people living in nearby geographic locations. In developing countries, few Non Government Organizations (NGO) also take up gleaning,    and they distribute food to their inmates. But in developing nations, food banks or department stores/supermarkets do not get involved in gleaning.

In food waste pyramid, first thing is to ensure that the collected food through food banks is eaten by people. If it fails, then it will be redistributed of the farm animals. Some of the processed food manufacturing companies in developed countries have started to sign up with these food banks. Every year due to rejections, tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables get wasted in developed countries.

Food Wastage Pyramid
Food Wastage Pyramid

Farmers in both developing countries and developed nations have obstacles in finding secondary markets. In such conditions, they leave fresh fruits or vegetables in the field itself that cannot be sold at the market. These farmers need some local unit for storing perishable fruits and vegetables and manufacture different by products for future marketing and distribution.

Leading processed food manufacturers in developed countries took quick steps to identify plans to use 'rejected' perishable vegetables and fruits. As per these plant it is possible avoid food wastage at their site and reduce transportation cost also. Several tonnes of apples, cauliflowers, cabbages and spring greens are among the few plant produces that have already been selected for this plan. Some of them sold these rejected vegetables and fruits under discounted rates by sorting them separately. Some supermarkets cooked ready meals with these fruits and vegetables. Poor people, who cannot afford to get a full meal, could get the benefits through this plan. Weather damaged, packing damaged fruits and vegetables have been sold to customers at reduced rates.

Food Redistribution
Food Redistribution
Usage of organic farming with Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) practices can beneficial for the world to maintain biodiversity and get sufficient vegan food for the  healthy future generation. Organic fruits and vegetables are more resistant to withstand the viral and bacterial infections in the plants and trees. as the seeds are obtained from plant breeding people can get long term benefits while saving the world from climatic adversities  such as green house effect global warming etc.,

International Day of Rural Women

Women in ancient Mesopotamia had been in charge of fields and gardens where cereals were grown. With the invention of plough, farming became the work of men, due to weight of the plough. When men go for hunting, women were able to grow small plants and try to get fire wood for cooking. Starting from sowing seeds to harvesting, rural women work in the fields for prolonged hours and manage their families also. Traditionally in countries of high population, rural women get involved in farming and in fact they had great affinity for this occupation. Apart from fulfilling their monetary needs, they had patience and skill sets to take up these activities.

She takes care of the crop seeds and harvested produces and every one of the family members took part in agricultural activities. In different countries, animals were used for tough tasks related to agriculture. Women folk took care of these animals used in fields. Industrial revolution took a toll when next generation started to pursue their career in industry and inclined to move to cities.

After few centuries, people realized about effects of polluted environment and difficulties to get employed in cities only. Urban women in developing countries switched over to processed foods and fast foods. Increase in the incidence of various diseases resulted. Now at a global level, people are switching over to organic farming due to health benefits of organic foods. Present younger generation of women should venture into Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF), as there are lots of advanced techniques to support them.

Organic Farming
Our environment is protected through avoiding harmful chemicals in the farming sector. Packing of organic products is also accomplished with agricultural by-products and this can save our earth. Rural women are getting empowered through various steps taken by governments of developing countries. Successful women entrepreneurs are gradually emerging in these countries. This will improve the status of poor rural women involved in agricultural practices.

Inequality in wages and other working conditions are also getting improved with media publicity. Increasing mobile and internet usage in rural places also contribute to this. Various international research institutions, Non Government Organization (NGO), religious bodies and funding organizations are confident about performance of rural women communities. With more active role on rural scenario, women can improve the economy status of their countries through permaculture. They care for their family and they will mend the entire world.
